CHE∪ESSE
Dance performance CHE∪ESSE is an ode to nature and pilgrimage to the digital age. Invented values and practices are used to govern relationships between performers to question our relationship to the law and the individual and collective responsibility we have in the face of its force of dominance. The performance is inspired by Foucault’s writings in the book Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison.
The project has been developed during the master studies CoPeCo – Contemporary Performance and Composition in collaboration with CPPM – Masters in Contemporary Physical Performance Making, BA – Balettakademien Stockholm, DOCH – School of Dance and Circus Stockholm and CNSMD – National High Conservatory Of Music And Dance Of Lyon.
In the context of this work, I present my compositional techniques and artistic method as a tool for visualizing the evident state of change and shift in perception while experiencing performance art. This readjustment of a digitally influenced perspective has changed artist practices. The broad array of options now available to artists through new technologies may sometimes have a dangerously negative effect precisely because they offer the artists means of expression they never imagined were possible. These negative effects are often manifested as stress and anxiety that is generally a huge issue of the younger generation.
“The flame of creativity dies out and the tide of inspirational revelation recedes and the building blocks of imagination freeze at the bottom of the artist’s psyche, as they gradually transform into a shallow abstract translation of a constellation of enormous technological capabilities, devoid of any creative substance.” – Zaher Mohamed.
